
Genia Wright is a dynamic leader and strategist whose career spans operational excellence, financial stewardship, and advocacy for equity in the nonprofit sector. Currently based in Brooklyn, NY, she brings extensive experience as an interim executive—most recently serving as Interim Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations at Race Forward. She has also held leadership roles as Chief Operating and Financial Officer at the Vera Institute of Justice and Chief Operating Officer at Legal Services NYC, the nation’s largest civil legal services provider.
Genia’s expertise extends into policy and research, having previously managed operations for two research centers at the Urban Institute, and supporting strategic initiatives within the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Freddie Mac, and Target’s Community Relations department.
A proud native of Pittsburgh, PA, Genia holds a BA in Public Relations/Business Administration from Howard University, an MPA in Nonprofit Management from George Washington University, two Master’s Certificates in Contracts Administration from Villanova University, and the PMP certification from the Project Management Institute.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Genia is deeply committed to social justice and community empowerment. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the East Harlem Tutorial Program, volunteers with the NAACP ACT‑SO program, and maintains roots in creative expression—having been trained in improv, sketch, and television writing at the Upright Citizens Brigade.
