Hayden Atwell is a transformative educator and the Cross-Curricular Department Head of Experiential Learning (EHS & SHSM), Student Success, School Improvement, and Equity at Castlebrooke Secondary School. Hayden exemplifies Black excellence in education through his unwavering commitment to anti-Black racism, equity, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CRP), and student leadership. He is the co-founder of the Network of Black Studies Educators (NBSE) and co-author of the Contemporary Black Studies course, designed to center Black voices and experiences while challenging anti-Black racism in curriculum and pedagogy. His leadership in this space earned him the NBSE Black Excellence Award, recognizing his impact as an anti-racist curriculum leader and advocate for CRP. Hayden’s work reflects a deep and profound interest in serving and uplifting Black students and families, ensuring that all students—especially those from marginalized communities—have the opportunity to thrive.
